Airplane Liquid Hokum

I find it amusing and odd that it took the "terrorists" almost five years to figure out what every high school chemistry kid knows.  What do they already know?....how to mix everyday liquids to make explosives. 

Well, to be fair, you do need some knowledge and equipment.  Many a home has gone kablooie after some teenagers have experimented in their bedrooms. 

But, the "terrorists" have money.  What took them so long to figure this out...and supposedly plan on implementing using these concoctions? 

Well, the timing is good.  As least as far as Israel, Hezbollah, the crappy American economy, growing lack of support for U.S. presense in Iraq, hell breaking loose in even more new and horrible ways in Iraq...and on and on and on.  But...good timing?  Yes.  It seems that for the moment, all of those things has gone "Poof"!  Disappeared.  Presto chango....we have a new scare-of-the-day!  Beware the shampoo....look out, it's baby formula....  It all seems like great timing. 

So now you can't take any liquid onto an airplane in the carry-on luggage.  Has anyone told the security about condoms?????  Have they never seen a prison movie?????  Do they know how people smuggle things into prisons?????  Have they never, ever heard about some fun little practice called a cavity search????

I can see the "terrorist" now.  He places one "liquid" into a condom and swallows it.  He places another "liquid" into a condom and swallows it too.  Then, while in the air, the smacks his tummy and "kablooie". 

Sound silly?  I don't think so.  It won't be long now before the people will have to be x-rayed, just like the carry-ons.

Actually, it does sound silly to me...but mark my words...this will happen eventually.

p.s.  I don't plan to fly ever again.  It just isn't safe.  I've seen the poor airplane maintenance records.

And now that more information has come to light, we have even more reason to be fed up!

It seems that the good guys have know about these bad guys and their plot for months.  EXCUSE ME?  So why did they not get arrested months ago?  Was it because of the timing issue?  Was it just more dramatic and a better photo op to arrest "terrorists" mere days before their plan was to be implemented rather than (ho hum) months?  I guess panic goes a long way to make the good guys look more like heroes.  Then again....IF THE LIQUIDS HAD BEEN BANNED FROM AIRLINES YEARS AGO (yes, the good guys have known about this possibility for years) THEN THIS LATEST "PANIC" WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN NECESSARY!  Are they really doing their jobs or are they merely helping to prolong the mess.  Don't get me wrong here...I'm glad the bad guys were stopped, and hope any other bad guys that may still be out there get stopped too.  It's just the way in which the good guys do their job that does not inspire confidence.

What if...just if...the good guys had missed a "memo", and the bad guys moved their plan up a few days?  They could have been stopped months ago...but oh no, let's wait until "days" before the execution date.  Oops

Now, what it...just if...the good guys had paid better attention to all the info presented to them about a possible attack on US soil?  Might two buildings in NY still be standing?  Maybe, maybe not.  We'll never know.  But I do know that chest beating is not appropriate when a job is done belatedly.  If I know someone is planning to kill someone else, I wouldn't wait months before I decide to stop him.  I would stop him NOW. 

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm even more...
